Resumo

Este artigo discute o papel de George Moore (1852-1933) na consolidação do impressionismo na Inglaterra. Pouco conhecido no Brasil, o escritor irlandês integrou a boemia dos impressionistas franceses e, desafiando o establishment inglês, foi um entusiasta do movimento em Londres. Nesse processo, teve participação ativa na promoção do New English Art Club, sociedade de artistas que se autoproclamaram os “Impressionistas Londrinos”.  Em meio à hostilidade contra o grupo, Moore desponta como um crítico de arte que, ao defender as formas imprecisas da nova pintura, recria verbalmente as sensações de movimento e frenesi da vida moderna.
