Abstract

This article examines the painting Triangles pointe sur pointe, rectangle, carrés, barres (1931) by Sophie Taeuber-Arp, which is part of the MAC USP collection. Based on bibliographic review of critical literature about the artist and examination of primary documents available in the historical archives of MAC USP and the São Paulo Biennial, the article seeks to contextualize the painting within the artist's career, taking into account her experiments with dance and applied arts, in order to provide a unique formal analysis of the work. This analysis encompasses discussions of gender in the historiography of modern art and reflections on the persistence of the hierarchy between fine arts and applied arts.
