Latin American visual histories: Alejandro Del Conte's personal archive and the networks of photography from the magazine Correo Fotográfico Sudamericano

Abstract

Alejandro Del Conte was the editor of the magazine Correo Fotográfico Sudamericano, a major publication on photography in Latin America. In 2017, part of his archive was recovered, enabling us to understand the functioning of this publication, not just as an isolated initiative, but as the starting point for a complex project focused on the dissemination and education of photography, with the creation of a school and a collection of technical books focused on photographic practice in its various forms. In this article, part of my postdoctoral research, I seek to map the dynamics of this complex based on the archive, compared with the volumes of Correo Fotográfico Sudamericano, particularly its relationship with Brazil.
