Resumo
O presente artigo apresenta um estudo introdutório da Vida de Xenofonte (II.48–59), de Diógenes Laércio, seguido de sua tradução anotada para o português. Inicialmente, discutem-se alguns aspectos do gênero biográfico antigo e o lugar ocupado pela obra de Diógenes Laércio na tradição das biografias filosóficas. Em seguida, examinam-se elementos da recepção de Xenofonte na Antiguidade, com especial atenção à sua caracterização como filósofo socrático e à forma como sua trajetória é construída na narrativa biográfica. Busca-se, desse modo, refletir sobre as relações entre vida, filosofia e escrita biográfica, bem como sobre o papel desempenhado pela Vida de Xenofonte na transmissão e consolidação da imagem do autor ateniense. Por fim, oferece-se uma tradução anotada do texto, acompanhada de observações acerca de algumas escolhas tradutórias e de questões interpretativas suscitadas pelo original grego.
